Uzbekistan official seeks death penalty for sexual crimes against children

Uzbekistan's Presidential Administration head Saida Mirziyoyeva has called for the death penalty to be introduced for people convicted of sexual offences against children.

She also called for strict punishment for officials who allow such violations to occur, Vesti.kg reports.

Mirziyoyeva said state bodies had already been given relevant instructions.

Her comments came after an incident at a kindergarten in Namangan Region involving a five-year-old girl.

Local media reported that the suspect was the kindergarten's warehouse manager. He has been arrested.
