Uzbekistan ranks second in Central Asia for outstanding IMF loans
Uzbekistan has 73.64 million Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) in outstanding loans to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), equivalent to approximately $101.2 million, placing it second among Central Asian countries with outstanding IMF obligations.
Tajikistan has the region’s largest outstanding IMF debt, at 111.36 million SDRs, or around $153 million, IMF data shows.
Kyrgyzstan ranks third, with outstanding IMF loans of 54.02 million SDRs, equivalent to approximately $74.2 million.
Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are not currently listed among countries with outstanding IMF loans.
Uzbekistan’s outstanding obligation stems from emergency financing provided during the COVID-19 pandemic, when countries across the region and elsewhere turned to international financial institutions for support in responding to the economic impact of the pandemic.
