Uzbekistan: Six killed in deadly gas station explosion VIDEO
At least six people were killed and five others injured after an explosion and subsequent fire at a liquefied gas filling station in Uzbekistan's Karshi district on Monday (June 8), according to the country's Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The incident occurred at 1:50 p.m. local time (12:50 p.m. Baku time). Emergency services were dispatched to the scene and began efforts to contain the fire and deal with the aftermath, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.
Authorities said the explosion and blaze also damaged four vehicles, including two passenger cars and two gas tankers, as well as two underground storage tanks.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered the establishment of a government commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov. The commission has been tasked with assisting victims, overseeing recovery efforts and determining the cause of the incident.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations said the situation is under control, with response operations continuing at the site.
