Uzbekistan urges international support for Afghanistan’s return to peace

Uzbekistan should support the people of Afghanistan and help them return to peaceful life rather than leaving the country to face its crisis alone, Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the administration of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, said.

Speaking during the general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Mirziyoyeva argued that treating Afghanistan solely as a security threat would not resolve the challenges facing the country.

“If Afghanistan is viewed exclusively as a source of danger, this will not solve the problems. Afghanistan’s multinational population cannot be left alone with its problems. They must be given hope and confidence in the possibility of a peaceful life,” she said.

Mirziyoyeva said the approach was also shared by the Uzbek president. She added that decisions taken by Mirziyoyev, together with measures adopted by other Central Asian countries, had contributed to an improvement in the regional situation.

According to Mirziyoyeva, Central Asian states have increasingly begun to “view each other as partners rather than sources of threats,” reflecting what she described as a shift toward greater regional cooperation.
