Vance says US has eased restrictions on Iranian ports

19 June 2026 08:54

The United States has eased restrictions affecting Iranian seaports as part of its agreements with Iran, allowing more than a dozen vessels to enter the country's ports, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said.

Vance said the move formed part of Washington's commitments under the initial phase of the agreement and represented the U.S. side's implementation of military-related provisions, according to the Associated Press.

He also stated that Iran had begun permitting commercial shipping to transit through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy transport corridors.

According to Vance, more than 12.5 million barrels of oil passed through the strait on the evening of June 17. He said the U.S. decision to ease restrictions on Iranian maritime access was intended to demonstrate compliance with its obligations under the early stages of the agreement.
