Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to 3,685
Venezuela's death toll from the powerful twin earthquakes that struck on June 24 has risen to 3,685, while authorities have opened around 500 new burial plots at La Esperanza cemetery in La Guaira state, including 150 graves reserved for unidentified victims.
The latest government figures also show 16,740 people injured and 17,907 displaced by the disaster, Caliber.Az reports via US media.
Cemetery officials said unidentified victims are being buried in individually marked graves bearing identification codes to facilitate future identification by relatives.
Staff estimated that at least 80 bodies were buried on Monday (July 6) as authorities continued expanding burial capacity to cope with one of Venezuela's deadliest natural disasters in recent history.
