Venezuela's Rodriguez describes meeting with Trump as "historic"

Venezuelan acting President Delcy Rodriguez said she held a “historic” meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

In a post on X, Rodriguez said the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation in strategic areas, including energy, mining and security.

“We held a historic meeting with US President Donald Trump, during which we discussed strengthening bilateral relations between our countries and advancing an agenda of cooperation in strategic areas such as energy, mining, security and other matters of mutual interest,” Rodriguez wrote.

She also thanked Trump and his administration for what she described as “decisive support” during the emergency caused by earthquakes on June 24, as well as for supporting Venezuela’s reintegration into multilateral forums.

“Venezuela and the United States share a historic relationship which, at this new stage, we are called upon to channel through dialogue,” Rodriguez said.

She added that Caracas would continue to pursue diplomacy focused on the national interest and aimed at achieving “concrete results and collective benefits” for the Venezuelan people.
