Venezuela shuts border with Brazil following US strikes

Venezuela has closed its border with Brazil following a U.S. military operation targeting the country.

According to O Globo, citing the Brazilian police, “On Saturday morning, the border between Brazil and Venezuela was closed in the Pacaraima area of Roraima state.”

Sources from the Brazilian army told the publication that the closure occurred on the Venezuelan side due to the U.S. attack.

A senior Brazilian officer told reporters that the Brazilian side had taken no action to close the border and that it “continues to operate as usual.”

On January 3, 2026, the United States launched a swift military operation against Venezuela, targeting key military installations and resulting in the capture of President Nikolas Maduro. The operation has sparked international condemnation and raised concerns over regional stability, with allies like Russia and Iran denouncing the strikes as violations of international law.
