Vice speaker flags economic risks for Slovakia tied to EU policies
24 May 2026 11:30
Slovakia may face serious economic challenges as a result of European Union policies, Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament Tibor Gašpar has said.
“Slovakia is heading toward worse economic times due to the way the European Union behaves,” he noted, adding that Europe’s overall competitiveness is declining.
Gašpar stressed that electricity prices in Europe are about one and a half times higher than in the United States, while gas prices are nearly three times higher. In his view, such conditions make it difficult for companies to remain competitive on the global market, which will also affect Slovakia.
