Victims rise following Russian night attack on Ukraine's Dnipro

The death toll from the nighttime Russian shelling of Dnipro has risen to 30, with 12 people hospitalised, according to Serhiy Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration.

One Russian missile struck a high-rise building in Dnipro, while 40 other high-rise buildings sustained damage, Ukrainian media reports, quoting Lysak as saying.

On the night of September 20, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine, deploying 579 drones and 40 missiles, including ballistic missiles. While most of the targets were intercepted by Ukrainian air defences, several still suffered hits.

The attack followed traditional Russian tactics, involving simultaneous strikes on designated targets using a combination of missiles and UAVs of various types. Ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and 23 strike drones struck 10 locations, with debris falling on an additional 10 sites.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Pavlohrad, also in the Dnipropetrovsk region, was targeted by drones and ballistic missiles during the night. Serhiy Lysak said a business was destroyed there, causing a fire.

In the Dunayevets community of the Khmelnytskyi region, Serhiy Tyurin, head of the regional military administration, reported that a man born in 1979 was found dead while firefighters were extinguishing a blaze in a house. Two others sought medical assistance. The attack destroyed two houses and damaged approximately 20 residential buildings.

The Odessa region also came under Russian fire. A warehouse caught fire, and facilities storing agricultural machinery were destroyed.

In the Chernihiv region, the Nezhin district was again attacked. In the Borzna community, a Russian drone strike ignited a private house, killing a 62-year-old local woman.
