Volume of imports of agricultural products to EU increases by 38 percent
The volume of EU trade in agri-food products increased in January year-on-year by 25%, amounting to €28.3 billion, according to a report by the European Commission.
“Total EU agri-food trade reached €28.3 billion in January 2022, up 25% from the same period last year and 16% more than the three-year average,” the report says. .
Exports amounted to €15.8 billion and imports €12.5 billion, up 16% and 38% respectively.
Exports to the UK grew the most, by €894 million, or 36%, to €3.4 billion, followed by the United States, up €323 million, or 21%, to almost €1.9 billion. The volume of trade with Russia increased by €137 million (26%) to €659 million.
The UK, US and China account for 40% of all EU agri-food exports. Despite this, exports to China fell by €414 million, or 28% year-on-year. Now it is less than €1.1 billion.
The increase in imports in January from the UK amounted to €598 million, that is, increased by 137% to just over €1 billion, from Ukraine - by €489 million (88%), and also amounted to just over €1 billion. Imports from Brazil increased by €400 million (54%), and amounted to €1.1 billion.
