Vucic sets autumn timeline for Serbia’s parliamentary vote

23 July 2026 17:13

Serbia will hold early parliamentary elections in the autumn, likely in October or November, with presidential elections to follow at a later date, President Aleksandar Vucic said on July 23.

Speaking after talks with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis in Belgrade, Vucic reiterated his commitment to holding elections before the end of the year. “I have already said that the elections will take place by the end of 2026; I will keep my word, and now it is up to the people to express their will. Parliamentary elections will definitely take place by the end of the year, and presidential elections — somewhat later,” he said.

Vucic had previously announced on July 10 that he would step down as president once the date for the parliamentary vote is formally set.

Ahead of the elections, Vucic has pledged to support the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), which plans to contest the vote under a list named “United Serbia.” According to SNS chairman Milos Vucevic, the party expects Vucic to lead its electoral list and become its candidate for prime minister.
