Vučić: Serbia ready to cooperate with Uzbekistan on ballistic missiles

09 September 2026 10:41

Serbia plans to begin producing long-range ballistic missiles within a year and is ready to cooperate with Uzbekistan in the field, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Tuesday, September 8.

Speaking at the Serbia-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Belgrade, Vučić said Serbia’s defence industry was advancing through the transfer of technology and expertise from foreign partners.

Serbia already produces short-range missiles, he said. Vučić asked Nenad Miloradović, the Serbian assistant defence minister for material resources, how long it would take the country to begin producing longer-range ballistic missile systems. Miloradović estimated that preparations could be completed within a year.

“Within a year, we will begin producing long-range ballistic missiles, and we are ready to cooperate with you in this area as well,” Vučić told Uzbek business representatives.

Vučić described the development of the defence industry as part of Serbia’s broader technological and industrial progress. He did not disclose specific characteristics of the planned missiles or provide details of what potential cooperation with Uzbekistan could involve.

He also said that Serbia rarely discusses such developments publicly, but argued that the planned expansion reflected the progress achieved by the country’s defence industry and its specialists.
