Vučić to resign as Serbia’s president after returning from New York
11 September 2026 15:46
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić says he will resign at the end of September and campaign for snap parliamentary elections as an ordinary citizen.
Speaking at a press conference, Vučić said he would submit his resignation immediately after returning from New York, on September 25 or 26, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
He said the law did not require him to step down, but that it was his own decision.
“No president has done this before,” he said, adding that previous presidents and prime ministers had campaigned while still in office.
Vučić said he would spend the final month of the election campaign as an ordinary citizen.
