Warsaw set for massive union rally over “Green Deal”

20 May 2026 10:56

A large-scale demonstration organised by Solidarity is set to take place in Warsaw, drawing participants from across the country.

According to RMF, protesters are calling for a referendum on the “Green Deal,” making it the central demand of the rally.

Workers from multiple regions are travelling to the capital, with authorities expecting significant traffic congestion and disruptions to public transportation in central Warsaw. Organised bus groups from several cities are taking part in the demonstration.

More than 200 employees from the ArcelorMittal Poland plant in Dąbrowa Górnicza have arrived on four buses. Workers from coke-producing enterprises have also joined the protest, with additional departures organised from Katowice and Ruda Śląska.

Overall, an estimated 5,000 Solidarity members from the Silesian Voivodeship alone are expected to participate. Representatives of other trade unions are also joining the march.

Participants are scheduled to gather at 12:00 at Castle Square. The route will pass through Krakowskie Przedmieście, Nowy Świat, Ujazdowskie Avenue, and Matejki Street, before continuing toward the Sejm building on Wiejska Street.

A stop is also planned near the Presidential Palace, and the march is expected to conclude at approximately 15:00.
