Washington metro collision leaves 11 hurt, causes major delays
Eleven people were injured when a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority work vehicle collided with a stationary train on Metro’s Silver Line at Metro Center, transit officials said, Fox News reports.
The crash occurred shortly after midnight and caused major disruptions during the morning commute.
Metro said Silver Line trains are operating only between Ashburn and Clarendon while crews respond to the incident. Riders travelling toward New Carrollton or Downtown Largo have been advised to transfer to the Orange Line.
Officials also warned of significant delays in both directions as trains are operating on a single track between McPherson Square and Smithsonian stations.
Metro Center reopened at around 5:15 a.m., but delays continued throughout the morning rush hour.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
