Welt: Ukraine gearing up for new counteroffensive

Ukraine is planning a new counter-offensive in 2024, Berlin-based Welt newspaper reports.

According to the daily, the US has received from Ukraine a wish list of weapons, which includes Black Hawk and Apache attack helicopters, F-16 and F-18 fighter planes, missile systems, Abrams tanks, unmanned aerial vehicles and ammunition.

Welt notes that the left bank of the Dnieper may become the starting point for a new counteroffensive.

The newspaper also claims that the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, was not in favour of the counteroffensive launched in June this year, and a quick breakthrough was impossible, so changing the strategy was a smart move and helped buy important time.
