What is known about the aftermath of the US operation in Venezuela? PHOTO
Homes belonging to civilians were damaged during a US military operation in Venezuela, according to international media reports citing eyewitness accounts and photographic evidence from areas near the capital, Caracas.
Reuters reported that it was unable to confirm the exact number of houses affected but published testimonies from several residents of Catia-La-Mar, a city located close to Caracas. One local resident said he was awakened by a loud blast followed by destruction to nearby buildings. “We’re alive by a miracle,” he was quoted as saying.
Photographs released by Reuters show visible damage to residential structures, underscoring concerns about the impact of the operation on civilian areas.
Casualty figures remain disputed. Earlier, The New York Times, citing a Venezuelan government official, reported that the death toll from the US military action had risen to 80 people.
