What remains of Aroyat bulk carrier after Ukrainian strike PHOTO

On September 27, Ukrainian defence forces struck the Aroyat bulk carrier as it was heading toward a Russian port, according to Exilenova+.

A fire broke out in the vessel’s stern following the strike. The ship had a crew of 16 sailors: seven Egyptian nationals, six Syrian nationals and three Turkish nationals. There have been reports of fatalities among the crew.

In 2023, Aroyat was among the first vessels to use Ukraine’s maritime corridor, where it was loaded with grain for shipment to Egypt.

Aroyat is a bulk carrier. Its registered owner is Aroyat Management Co., while Kiva Marine Ltd., based in Istanbul, is listed in open sources as the vessel’s ship and commercial manager. The ship sails under the flag of Palau.
