WHO Director General commends integration of health in COP29 agenda
The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has lauded the inclusion of healthcare as a focal point in the upcoming COP29 agenda, expressing strong support for collaborative efforts to address climate-related health challenges.
The WHO chief made these remarks during his video address to participants at the annual global summit "Predicting a Healthy Future," traditionally held ahead of the COP conferences, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
Highlighting the escalating impacts of climate change, the director general emphasized the necessity for collective action among nations to effectively combat these challenges. He underscored that the integration of health considerations into climate strategies is crucial for building resilience and safeguarding public well-being in the face of environmental shifts.
Tedros also acknowledged WHO's close cooperation with Azerbaijan and commended the country's leadership in advancing health-related discussions on the sidelines of the COP29.
