World's first mass-produced solar-powered car appears

11 June 2022 01:31

The Dutch company Lightyear held a world presentation of a solar-powered car, which was called Lightyear 0. The cost of the car starts from €250 thousand, production will start this fall.

Fastback is equipped with solar panels, which are located on the roof and hood. They provide the car with an additional 70 km of power reserve per day and a total of up to 11 thousand km per year, the creators of the car said, Gazeta.Ru reports.

In one hour, Lightyear 0 will receive a charge due to solar energy, which is enough for 10 km of run. If you drive 50 kilometers a day, then the car can not be charged for months, the Dutch manufacturer claims.

The novelty is able to charge from the network, like all other electric cars. So, an hourly recharging from a household outlet will give an additional 32 km, and then a fast charging station - 520 km. The 60 kWh battery provides 625 km of WLTP range. The length of the car is 5 meters, and it weighs 1575 kg. The electric car is equipped with four electric motors, allowing to develop 160 km / h and accelerate to “hundreds” in 10 seconds.

The Lightyear 0's body panels are made from recycled carbon, while the interior is trimmed with plant-based leather, fabric from recycled PET bottles and rattan.
