WP: Pentagon says US strikes on Yemen killed or wounded nearly 400 civilians last year

Nearly 400 civilians were killed or wounded in US airstrikes on Yemen in 2025, according to a Pentagon review.

Thus, the US Defence Department said 153 civilians were killed and nearly 250 wounded during an operation targeting Houthi militants in Yemen, Caliber.Az reports, citing The Washington Post.

The Pentagon carried out strikes against at least 1,000 targets and found that three incidents were “more likely than not” to have harmed civilians. A further 15 incidents remain under review.

One strike killed 68 civilians, according to the review. The Washington Post previously reported that at least 38 people were killed when a purported detention centre holding African migrants was struck.

Another strike on a port killed 80 people and injured 171, while a third killed five people at a residence in Sanaa. Human rights groups have described some of the strikes as potential war crimes.

The operation was launched by President Donald Trump to target Houthi militants following attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

The Pentagon declined to comment, saying it would release the report in the coming months.

The review covers incidents from 2025 and does not include ongoing assessments of civilian harm from the war involving Iran.
