WSJ: Castro’s grandson sought to deliver secret letter to Trump
A grandson of former Cuban leader Raúl Castro reportedly attempted to arrange the delivery of a secret letter directly to US President Donald Trump, bypassing standard diplomatic channels, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
Citing US officials, the report states that the arrangement was made last week with a well-connected businessman in Havana, who was expected to deliver the message personally.
The letter was reportedly prepared in accordance with diplomatic protocol and bore Cuba’s official seal. It allegedly included proposals for economic and investment agreements, as well as a request for easing US sanctions.
However, the message also reportedly contained a warning that Cuba could prepare for a potential invasion of the United States.
The development comes amid heightened rhetoric from Washington. Earlier, Trump stated that “Cuba will be next” after concluding operations in Iran, describing the island nation as being in decline and poorly managed for a long time.
