WSJ: Israel conducts “global manhunt” for those involved in October 7 attack
Israel is continuing a large-scale operation aimed at locating and eliminating individuals involved in the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023, despite ongoing ceasefires and negotiations regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The report says a special unit known as NILI has been established to identify and track suspects. The unit relies on facial recognition technology, intercepted communications, video analysis, and intelligence gathered through human sources.
According to the publication, the targets of these operations include not only Hamas commanders but also lower-level participants allegedly involved in the attack and hostage-taking.
The operations are reported to extend beyond the Gaza Strip, reaching locations such as Lebanon and Iran. Israeli authorities view these actions as self-defence, while critics describe them as extrajudicial killings that could further escalate radicalisation in the region.
