WSJ: Over 15 US warships involved in Iran blockade

More than 15 US military vessels have been deployed as part of a blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports, citing a senior US official.

According to the source, an aircraft carrier, several guided-missile destroyers, an amphibious assault ship, and a number of other combat units have been deployed to the Middle East. As the newspaper notes, these vessels are also capable of carrying helicopters that may be used to support onboard operations.

US Central Command had earlier announced that it would begin enforcing a naval blockade of Iran on April 13. American forces intend to block the movement of all vessels heading to Iranian ports, as well as those attempting to depart from the country’s shores.
