WSJ: Trump ready to end Iran war without reopening Hormuz
31 March 2026 08:52
US President Donald Trump is prepared to conclude the military operation against Iran while leaving the Strait of Hormuz closed to shipping, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources.
In recent days, Trump and his advisers have concluded that efforts to reopen the strait would extend the conflict beyond his four-to-six-week timeline, according to the report.
The US president has decided that Washington should achieve its primary objectives—weakening Iran’s naval forces and missile stockpiles—before ending the confrontation and continuing to apply diplomatic pressure on Tehran.
Sources added that Trump plans to call on allies in Europe and the Persian Gulf to take the lead in reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
