WSJ: Trump’s team concerned over premature victory claim on Iran

09 April 2026 10:49

Officials close to US President Donald Trump have expressed concern that he may have overstated the significance of the “fragile ceasefire” with Iran and prematurely declared victory in the military operation, as per The Wall Street Journal.

The president has been advised on the risks that could cause the cease-fire to crater and warned that Iran still retains dangerous military capabilities, according to multiple officials.

One source told WSJ that while more than half of Iran’s missile installations have been destroyed, many remain hidden underground.

The source also noted that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps possesses dozens of small boats capable of threatening vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, despite 90% of Iran’s fleet being disabled.

Regardless of the warnings from senior officials, the White House highlighted significant US advantages ahead of negotiations with Iran. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the ongoing military operation, which began in late February, as a “military triumph,” WSJ reported.
