WSJ: US deploys fighter jets and refuelling aircraft to Middle East
The United States is reinforcing its military presence in the Middle East amid escalating regional tensions.
According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing the US Central Command (CENTCOM), F-16 fighter jets are being redeployed to the region from Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, while F-35 stealth fighters are being transferred from RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom.
In addition, aerial refuelling aircraft have been dispatched to support ongoing military operations in the region.
The report came after an Iranian attack on a US base in Jordan that killed two American service members. On July 17, Iranian ballistic missiles and drones struck Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in eastern Jordan as US and partner forces defended against the assault, resulting in one additional service member reported missing in action.
