X suspends account of Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree

The social media platform X has suspended the account of Yahya Saree, the primary military spokesperson for Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement, citing violations of platform rules.

While the platform did not disclose the precise nature of the infractions leading to the ban, the enforcement action removes a central channel used by the group to broadcast military updates and strategic messaging. Saree’s account had accumulated more than 121,000 followers prior to its removal, Caliber.Az reports.

The account served as a key outlet for publicising Houthi military operations, particularly recent maritime attacks targeting international shipping routes in the Red Sea as well as cross-border strikes directed at Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis have been embroiled in a complex regional conflict since 2014, when the group launched an offensive to seize control of Yemen’s capital, Sana’a. The civil war subsequently expanded into a broader proxy struggle, drawing in major external powers including Iran, which supports the rebels, and a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia.
