Xi announces global AI alliance backed by 29 countries

Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced the creation of an international artificial intelligence alliance bringing together 29 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Brazil, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.

Speaking at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, Xi called for greater international cooperation in the development and governance of AI, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

He described the initiative as China's response to calls from countries of the Global South and said it would unite the international community in advancing and regulating artificial intelligence.

"This is an important step by China in response to the call of Global South countries and in bringing together the international community to actively develop and govern artificial intelligence. It will become an important milestone in the history of AI development," Xi said.

Xi also called for the establishment of legal frameworks and technological oversight mechanisms to prevent the misuse of artificial intelligence, stressing that the technology must always remain under human control.
