Yemen's Houthis claim responsibility for Saudi Aramco strike

09 August 2026 12:19

Yemen's Houthi movement, also known as Ansar Allah, claimed responsibility for an attack on a Saudi Aramco oil refinery in the Saudi city of Jizan, according to a statement by the movement’s military spokesperson published on its Telegram channel.

“Yemen’s armed forces were able to attack the Aramco refinery in Jizan using a drone, and the strike was accurate,” the statement said.

According to the Houthis, the attack was carried out in response to what they described as Saudi Arabia’s violation of the airspace over the provinces of Saada and Hajjah using unmanned aerial vehicles.

The statement came amid ongoing cross-border tensions, as Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry reported that Aramco industrial security teams extinguished a fire that broke out early on August 9 at a facility in the city of Jizan, with no injuries recorded and no official cause given.
