Yemen urges UN to tighten measures against Houthis amid escalation

Yemen has called on the United Nations to take stronger measures against the Houthi Ansar Allah movement amid what it described as an ongoing escalation, the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Yemen’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Afrah Al-Zouba, sent an official letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres urging the United Nations to adopt a firm stance against the Houthis and strengthen the existing restrictions on arms supplies and military support to the group, Caliber.Az reports.

Al-Zouba also called on the international community to enable Yemen’s government to fully restore its sovereignty and ensure security across its territory and adjacent maritime waters.

Separately, the minister called for an end to Iran’s support for the Houthis, arguing that such assistance contributes to the continuation of attacks and poses a threat to Yemen’s security, regional stability and international shipping.
