Yemeni armed forces target Israeli airbase with hypersonic missile
The Yemeni Armed Forces confirmed on May 2 that they had launched a missile strike on the Israeli "Ramat David" Airbase, located east of Haifa in northern occupied Palestine.
In a televised statement, Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e, spokesperson for the Armed Forces, confirmed the use of a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile in the attack, stating that the missile successfully reached its target, Caliber.Az reports per Yemeni media.
Sare’e further noted that Israeli interception systems failed to prevent the strike.
The military operation was described as a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people and their resistance fighters, particularly those in Gaza, who are enduring what the Yemeni authorities characterised as an ongoing genocide supported by the United States.
The Yemeni spokesperson reaffirmed their commitment to standing with Gaza, vowing to continue support operations until the aggression ceases and the blockade on the region is lifted.
Sare’e also saluted the “heroic resistance fighters” in Gaza, noting their resilience despite the siege and Israeli military aggression. The Yemeni statement made clear that their operations in support of Gaza would continue, highlighting the growing solidarity among groups resisting the Israeli occupation.
In the immediate aftermath of the missile strike, Israeli forces in northern occupied Palestine were reported injured while fleeing to shelters, and flights at Ben Gurion Airport were briefly suspended. According to Israeli media outlets, air sirens were triggered in approximately 250 cities, towns, and industrial zones, including Haifa and the area surrounding the Ramat David Airbase in the Jezreel Valley.
While Israeli forces claimed to have attempted intercepts, they did not confirm the missile's interception. Fragments of the missile were reportedly found near the Moshav Gadish settlement, suggesting a failure of the Israeli air defence systems and highlighting the missile’s capability to penetrate deep into occupied territory.
This attack marks the second such incident in a month involving missile strikes from Yemen, both of which occurred around midnight. According to the Israeli news outlet Walla, these events underscore the increasing unpredictability of military operations by the Yemeni Armed Forces.
The Yemeni military has previously executed coordinated strikes against Israeli targets in support of Gaza, and they have vowed to continue these operations as long as the blockade and aggression persist.
