Yemeni Houthis begin producing ballistic missiles with multiple warheads Leader announces

The Yemeni Houthi rebel movement, also known as Ansar Allah, has started producing ballistic missiles capable of carrying multiple warheads, according to the group’s leader, Abdel Malik al-Houthi.

In a televised address to supporters, broadcast by the group-affiliated Al-Masirah channel, al-Houthi said, “The missile forces have brought us good news about a new achievement that has alarmed the Israeli enemy. We have begun producing multiple warheads for Palestine-2 ballistic missiles. Now they are capable of carrying several warheads.”

On August 22, the Houthis reported launching a so-called “hypersonic ballistic missile” at Israeli territory. Israeli authorities stated that the missile, launched from Yemen, broke apart during flight and was intercepted in pieces by Israel’s air defence forces. Subsequent analysis by the Israeli army concluded that the missile was likely the first Houthi-launched missile equipped with multiple warheads.

The Ansar Allah movement frequently claims to possess “hypersonic ballistic missiles,” though military experts remain sceptical. Critics argue that the group, which controls part of Yemen—one of the world’s poorest countries — lacks the resources to produce advanced weaponry independently.

UN Security Council reports have periodically cited attempts to smuggle weapons from Iran to Yemen by sea. While the scale and frequency of these shipments remain unclear, analysts note that the missiles used by the Houthis bear similarities to Iranian designs.

Despite these observations, the Houthis insist that their missile arsenal is domestically produced. Iran has also denied allegations of providing military support to the Yemeni rebels.
