YouGov: One-third of Britons see Burnham as weak, indecisive

Around a third of Britons describe Prime Minister Andy Burnham as a weak and indecisive leader, according to a YouGov survey whose results were published on the polling company’s X account.

Thirty-three per cent of respondents described Burnham as indecisive, while the same proportion called him weak. Those figures have increased by 10 and 12 percentage points, respectively, compared with YouGov’s findings from early August 2026.

At the same time, 34% of those surveyed described Burnham as a strong leader, down six percentage points from August. Forty-one per cent considered him decisive.

The poll also found that 30% of respondents viewed the prime minister as incompetent, while 45% considered him competent.

On the question of trust, 35% said Burnham was not trustworthy, compared with 36% who said he could be trusted.

More than half of respondents — 53% — said they liked the prime minister, while 26% said they disliked him.

Burnham became the United Kingdom’s prime minister on July 20, 2026, after being elected Labour Party leader four days earlier.
