Young European Ambassadors in Azerbaijan shelter animals during harsh winter months Love, pet, adopt
With the onset of winter, Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) in Azerbaijan have launched a project, ‘Love. Pet. Adopt’, in several cities across the country to provide shelter and food for homeless animals.
Since the start of December, three YEAs have installed 30 shelter boxes in the streets of Baku, Ganja, and Lankaran, sheltering over 40 cats, EU Neighbours East reports.
Funding for the project was provided by the European Union in collaboration with Wolt Azerbaijan, whose bags were recycled to create the boxes.
Zumrud Hasanova, one of the participating Young European Ambassadors, found the experience very rewarding.
“Every little happy face looking out the window of the shelter is forever etched in my memory as each of them is a new window to a brighter future,” she added.
The YEAs hope that this initiative will not only help protect animals from the harsh winter conditions but also inspire more animal welfare initiatives across the Eastern Partnership.
The Young European Ambassadors initiative brings together socially engaged youth from the six Eastern Partner countries, the European Union and the United Kingdom to foster dialogue and to raise awareness about the EU’s cooperation with its Eastern partner countries.
