Zakharova: Biden acknowledged risks of escalating conflict in Ukraine

14 January 2025 10:51

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has accused US President Joe Biden of admitting to inciting conflict in Ukraine during his recent foreign policy address.

Zakharova described Biden’s statement as a deliberate provocation, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

“Biden’s remarks are an admission of a consciously orchestrated provocation. The Biden administration knew it was pushing the world towards the brink and yet continued to inflame the conflict,” Zakharova noted.

President Biden delivered his speech on January 13, acknowledging that US support for Ukraine came with the risk of triggering a nuclear confrontation with Russia. He asserted, however, that Washington’s actions had strengthened its leadership in the global struggle for dominance.

To recall, US President Joe Biden reflected on his administration's efforts to bolster America's global standing and provide strategic support for Ukraine. Addressing the ongoing challenges in the region, Biden highlighted the dual objectives his administration had pursued in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine: rallying international support for Ukraine and preventing direct conflict between nuclear powers.

“When Putin launched his invasion, we had two jobs. One to rally the world to defend Ukraine, and the other to avoid a war between two nuclear powers. We did both those things,” Biden stated.
