During the talks, the leaders focused on several key areas, including opening the first integration cluster alongside Moldova, Ukraine’s participation in the Drone Wall initiative, and innovative financial mechanisms involving frozen Russian assets to bolster Ukraine’s defence. They also emphassed the urgency of adopting the EU’s 19th sanctions package against Russia.
President Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of unity among European partners, stating, “I thank our partners for their support and shared understanding of the importance of our unity and joint efforts for our security. It is important that Europe’s role is tangible, and we count on even more active work in all areas.”
António Costa underlined the EU’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and future, saying, “Our goal remains a strong and free Ukraine. Russia needs to know that the EU and its partners have the will and the means to continue supporting Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved.”
Costa also announced plans to launch a new program aimed at providing Ukraine with the technological edge it needs on the battlefield, reinforcing the collaborative effort toward Ukraine’s eventual membership in the European Union.
“This is what we mean when we say: today, tomorrow, and for as long as it takes,” he added.
