Zelenskyy imposes sanctions on former presidential adviser

01 May 2025 17:55

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has imposed sweeping sanctions on Oleksiy Arestovych, a former adviser to the Office of the President.

The measures against Arestovych include the revocation of state honours and other official commendations, an indefinite freeze on assets, and a complete suspension of trade operations involving him, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The sanctions also prohibit the transit of resources across Ukrainian territory linked to Arestovych, ban capital transfers abroad, and halt all economic and financial commitments.

Additional restrictions include a ban on the distribution of media content featuring Arestovych within Ukraine, the cancellation of licences and permits, such as those related to mineral resource use, and a prohibition on his participation in the privatisation or leasing of state property.

While the asset freeze is permanent, other measures are set to remain in place for ten years.

In March, Arestovych stated that Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Valerii Zaluzhnyi and Petro Poroshenko would not be taking part in the presidential elections in Ukraine. According to him, the election is scheduled to take place in October this year.

In February, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree imposing sanctions on several Ukrainian businessmen and politicians accused of posing a threat to national security and the country’s economic development.

The list included former president Petro Poroshenko, oligarchs Ihor Kolomoyskyi and Kostiantyn Zhevago, as well as businessman Henadiy Boholyubov and the leader of the "Other Ukraine" movement, Viktor Medvedchuk. The sanctions against them have been imposed for life.
