Zelenskyy, Macron discuss frontline situation, military aid in phone call
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on January 28, during which he briefed the French leader on the situation on the front lines and Russian military losses.
Zelenskyy said in a post on his Telegram channel that he thanked Macron for expressing condolences over Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure, including the shelling of a passenger train in the Kharkiv region.
The two leaders also discussed diplomatic efforts, including recent meetings in Abu Dhabi and the possibility of further talks. Other topics included efforts to counter Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, with Macron outlining related legislative initiatives in France.
“We discussed diplomatic work: meetings in Abu Dhabi and possible new meetings. We also talked about countering the Russian shadow fleet. Emmanuel spoke about work at the legislative level, and we are counting on important decisions,” Zelenskyy said.
The leaders also addressed ways to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience. According to Zelenskyy, France will soon supply Ukraine with generators, while additional deliveries of French aircraft, air defence missiles and aerial bombs are expected later this year.
