Zelenskyy outlines priorities in Ukraine-US post-war recovery talks

28 January 2026 13:52

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has detailed key areas requiring further elaboration in negotiations with the United States on post-war reconstruction, emphasizing the need for speed and coordination in the country’s rebuilding efforts.

Speaking via his Telegram channel, Zelenskyy said, “We identified with our negotiating team and government officials the matters that need to be worked out more deeply in the US agreement on post-war reconstruction. Work with the American side is moving ahead actively, and from the Ukrainian side – maximum speed.”

He explained that the focus is on provisions requiring detailed consideration to ensure sustainable development after the war and the effective use of American support. Central to the discussions are clear financing mechanisms, transparent rules for fund allocation, and efficient coordination between government authorities, businesses, and civil society.

Negotiators are also exploring ways to strengthen US-Ukraine partnerships in sectors critical to recovery, including transport, energy, and the rebuilding of infrastructure damaged by the conflict.

The Ukrainian side continues to refine the conditions of the agreement to facilitate the rapid launch of reconstruction programs and to establish robust mechanisms for monitoring the use of international support.

President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the US team’s constructive approach and stressed the urgency of reaching a concrete agreement to accelerate Ukraine’s post-war recovery.
