Zelenskyy reshuffles SBU leadership across Kyiv and key regions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has carried out a series of staff changes within the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), signing six decrees reshuffling leadership positions in Kyiv and several key regions, according to official documents published on the presidential website.
The decrees, which took effect on April 22, 2026, introduce changes in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, as well as the Kharkiv and Kherson regions, reflecting a broader reorganisation of the agency’s regional leadership.
In the capital and the surrounding Kyiv region, Artem Bondarenko has been removed from his post as head of the SBU Main Directorate. He has been replaced by Artem Borysevych, who previously led the SBU’s regional directorate in the Kherson region. With this appointment, Borysevych both assumed his new role in Kyiv and vacated his previous position in Kherson.
The reshuffle also extends to the Kharkiv region, where Oleksandr Kuts has been dismissed as head of the regional SBU directorate. Denys Lutiia has been appointed to succeed him.
Following Borysevych’s transfer to Kyiv, a leadership change was also required in the Kherson region. Volodymyr Vavruh has now been appointed as the new head of the SBU regional directorate there.
Separately, it was previously reported that Zelenskyy dismissed the head of the SBU in the Zhytomyr region, Volodymyr Kompanichenko. His dismissal came amid an investigation into alleged corruption linked to the construction of aviation shelters, placing his activities under official scrutiny.
