Zelenskyy updates NATO chief on talks with Trump, Macron in Paris
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held discussions with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, providing updates on his meetings with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
In a statement shared via his Telegram channel, Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of these diplomatic interactions, Caliber.Az reports.
"I discussed a range of topics with Mark Rutte, including my recent contacts with President Trump and President Macron. I emphasized my gratitude for President Trump’s decisiveness, which is exactly what can make a difference. We aim to provide as many details as possible to our partners to ensure the establishment of lasting and reliable peace through effective long-term solutions," Zelenskyy stated.
He praised President Macron's stance, which aligns with other European leaders' shared goal of strengthening Europe’s defence capabilities and ensuring its security.
"I value President Macron’s position, which reflects a unified European vision. Our common objective is to make Europe stronger, more prepared for self-defence, better equipped, and capable of safeguarding its people. Europe needs a clear and united stance that benefits all," he added.
Zelenskyy underscored the urgency of intensifying collaboration among leadership teams and called for more frequent high-level meetings to define the guarantees necessary for achieving a just peace.
"We are coordinating our positions ahead of upcoming meetings and negotiations scheduled for December. Our shared goal is to achieve a tangible and just cessation of Russian aggression by next year," Zelenskyy noted.
The Ukrainian president also reiterated the importance of collective action against the war initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Only Putin wants this war—no one else. We must do everything in our power to ensure he can no longer kill. Peace must become our shared success—of Ukraine, America, Europe, and all our partners," he concluded.
To recall, on December 7, French President Emmanuel Macron organized a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President-elect Donald Trump at the Elysee Palace.
It was their first face-to-face conversation since Trump took over the White House, pushing an isolationist agenda that could limit aid to the stricken country.
