Zelenskyy: US‑Israeli strikes on Iran open opportunity for repressed Iranians
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the aftermath of recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran, emphasising that any changes in the country should benefit the Iranian people, who have long endured violence from the authorities, according to UNIAN.
He stated that Iranian authorities have killed “tens of thousands of people in just the past couple of years,” referring to the suppression of protests.
Zelenskyy also noted that Iran has itself “determined how it would be treated” by supplying Russia with attack drones for use against Ukraine and by provoking regional conflicts.
“It is important that this opportunity for change in Iran is used properly. The Iranian people have long been left to fend for themselves, enduring violence and resisting the Iranian regime,” Zelenskyy said.
The president emphasised that US resolve is producing results, thanked those trying to prevent the spread of war, and added that Russia should take note of what is happening with Iranian leaders so that justice ultimately prevails.
