Azerbaijan brings back 16 citizens from Syria
Sixteen Azerbaijani nationals detained in the camps in the Syrian Arab Republic have been repatriated to Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan said.
As a result of gradual and coordinated actions taken by the Government of Azerbaijan, the repatriates, including 13 children and 3 women, were brought to our country, the ministry told Caliber.Az.
After the establishment of their location, identity, and citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan, transit through the territory of the Republic of Türkiye was provided.
Representatives of relevant state agencies responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were sent to the Republic of Türkiye and an initial medical and psychological examination of repatriates was provided.
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Türkiye carried out relevant coordination work and our citizens were provided with "certificates of return to the Republic of Azerbaijan" and flight tickets. On November 24, 2022, these citizens were repatriated to our country accompanied by a delegation.
The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan provided all the necessary measures for the reintegration and rehabilitation of these persons.
It should be noted that so far 409 citizens of Iraq and Syria, including 380 children and 29 women, have been repatriated to Azerbaijan.
