Azerbaijan helps evacuate around 20 Ukrainian citizens from Iran PHOTO
Approximately 20 Ukrainian citizens were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan through the Astara border checkpoint on the morning of June 24.
Alongside them, a group of US citizens also entered Azerbaijan from Iran, reporting that others remain on the Iranian side awaiting crossing, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
This evacuation is part of a broader, ongoing operation aimed at ensuring the safe and orderly departure of foreign nationals from Iranian territory. Several countries have appealed to the Azerbaijani government for assistance in repatriating their citizens, using Azerbaijan as a transit route.
Since the start of strikes between Israel and Iran, Azerbaijan has become a key transit hub for evacuees from various countries, including China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, as well as the United States, Spain, Portugal, Finland, and the Philippines.
