Baku hosts high-level roundtable on strengthening climate legislation
During Baku Climate Week, a High-Level Roundtable on Strengthening Climate Legislation and Institutions brought together lawmakers, experts, and private sector representatives to discuss advancing national climate action.
According to local media, deputies of the Milli Majlis, along with specialists and business leaders, participated in the discussions.
The main focus was on shaping new national climate commitments (NDCs), developing carbon markets, and creating conditions for a just transition to net-zero emissions. The discussions highlighted the critical role of science, business, and civil society in achieving these goals.
Participants were introduced to the GLOBE Parliamentary Guide on Article 6 and Carbon Markets, prepared ahead of the Article 6 Dialogue under the Paris Agreement, scheduled for COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
The roundtable also examined international experiences in climate legislation, considered the role of independent advisory councils, and emphasised the private sector’s contribution to implementing national climate strategies.
The meeting underscored that as global average temperatures are expected to rise further under current trends, legislative action, government oversight, and the mobilisation of public consensus are essential for effective climate governance.
