Official: Azerbaijan supports Australia, Türkiye in COP31 host country negotiations
Azerbaijan is actively assisting Australia and Türkiye in negotiations to select the host country for COP31, Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev announced during a speech at an international conference held as part of Baku Climate Action Week.
Rafiyev hailed the recent Baku COP conference as one of the most successful in history, noting its scale and inclusivity. Over 76,000 participants attended, making it the second-largest COP conference in terms of heads of state and government presence. The event brought together representatives from governments, the private sector, academia, civil society, and indigenous communities, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Reflecting on the recent UN General Assembly High-Level Week in New York, Rafiyev emphasised the importance of developed countries fulfilling their climate financing commitments.
He also highlighted the need to preserve the long-term legacy of Baku COP, ensuring that its outcomes and experiences continue to guide global climate action.
In addition, Azerbaijan is collaborating with Brazilian partners to implement the “Baku–Belém” roadmap, aimed at achieving the climate finance target of $1.3 trillion to support the needs of developing countries.
