Azerbaijani FM, EU special rep discuss efforts to normalise ties with Armenia
POLITICS 26 November 2022 - 15:47
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Special Representative of the European Union for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar met on November 26.
During the meeting the sides discussed efforts to normalise relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and possible further steps, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
Bayramov informed the other side about the elements of the peace treaty, prepared on the basis of the five basic principles presented by Azerbaijan, and the discussions on the Armenian side’s comments held in Washington.
The minister informed that the Armenian side continues military activity against Azerbaijan, grossly violating the provisions of the tripartite statement signed between the leaders, about the mine threat and the recent revealing of new mines made in Armenia in 2021.
The importance of fulfilling the obligations on the mutual opening of routes in the region, as well as the fact that Armenia's obligations in this sphere have not been fulfilled yet, was emphasised.
The Azerbaijani side’s views on the reintegration of the Armenians living in Karabakh were brought to the attention of the opposite side.
In turn, Klaar announced the intention of the European Union to continue making efforts to establish peace and stability in the region and open routes.
He stressed the importance of the normalisation process and result-oriented negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The views on relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union were exchanged during the meeting.
