Moscow condemns Borrel's remarks about banning Russian media in Europe
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has criticised the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrel, for remarks urging the ban of the Russian media in Europe.
In her Telegram channel, she noted that the diplomat links the ban of some media in European states with the "protection of freedom of speech", which is not quite adequate.
"Borrel said that the ban of a number of Russian media in Europe is a 'protection of freedom of speech'. Previously, such actions were classified as manifestations of a liberal dictatorship. However, in Borrel's statements, they experimented with new colours and shades of inadequacy," Zakharova said.
There has recently been an active campaign in Europe against Russian media outlets such as Sputnik and RT. The French authorities, in particular, claimed that the media was involved in "interference" in the presidential election. Similar assumptions were made about these media outlets in the United States, but no evidence was provided.
